BMTC ITS develops glitches in just one month
Bengaluru: The most ambitious project of the BMTC, the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is showing signs of hiccups. Currently, the GPS installed in most of the buses are not sending accurate data and the electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) have been encountering software problems.
About a month back, BMTC had rolled out the pilot project of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) from the Yelahanka depot.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kumar Pushkar, Director (IT) of BMTC admitted, “Some of the GPS devices are inactive and not sending data every 10 seconds. We are working on rectifying the problems.”
He added, “We are expecting to be back on track by the first week of November. Soon, the Managing Director of the BMTC will review the performance and we will make the project a full-fledged one.”
Another problem is the functioning of the ETMs. To ensure live monitoring and flow of revenue into the BMTC, it is crucial for the ETMs to function smoothly. Currently, the machines that have been bought from Chinese manufacturers are abruptly shutting down every two hours.
The machines are also unable to take the load of the tickets due to memory limitation. The software team is working on ironing out these glitches.
Showing the network of ITS to Deccan Chronicle, Pushkar pointed out that it was not necessary for him to sit in the control room, anyone who had the ID and password could access the data from anywhere.
The data is transmitted every 10 seconds. One of the biggest projects of the BMTC, ITS was intended to check pilferage by conductors since the sale of tickets will be through ETMs.
