Hyderabad: A 24-year-old married woman committed suicide after she was allegedly molested by her husband’s friend at Boya Basti in Madannapet.
The victim hanged herself at home leaving a suicide note on Monday night. Earlier, she approached the police alleging that Jaydev Reddy, who was also her neighbour, had molested her.
Though he was arrested, the victim’s husband dumped her suspecting her fidelity. The victim went into depression and ended her life, Madannapet police said.
The incident came to light when the victim’s mother returned home at night.
“In the suicide note, she has written that she did not want to live anymore since she was depressed due to the past incidents,” said Mr K. Venkat Ramana, Madannapet sub-inspector.
According to the police, the victim had approached them in October, stating that Jaydev grabbed her hand and misbehaved with her near her house. “Based on her complaint, we booked a case under IPC Section 354 for outraging the modesty of a woman, and sent him to judicial remand. He earned bail, and left Boya basti locking his house. Meanwhile, her husband sent her back to her house and broke up with her after which she went into depression,” said the SI.
She had told police that Jaydev Reddy, who is a trader, used to stalk her earlier. Since his action led to the series of incidents and the suicide, police has now booked a case against him under IPC Section 506 for abetment of suicide.
