Indian waiter's remains found on Costa Concordia wreck after two years

32 people died when the ship sunk off Giglio in 2012

The body of the missing waiter Russel Rebello has been found in the wreckage of the Costa Concordia, according to reports. Russel Rebello, from Mumbai was among the 32 people who died when the ship sunk off the Tuscan island of Giglio in January 2012.

His brother Kevin, who lives in Milan, posted on Facebook confirming the same.
The wreck was taken to Genoa in mid-July to be scrapped. In early August, salvage workers found fragments of bone inside the wreck during their search for Rebello. Tests are underway to determine whether the remains belonged to Rebello.

The ship's captain, Francesco Schettino, is on trial for manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and abandoning the ship before all the passengers had been evacuated.

Maritime lore and tradition say that the captain always goes down with the ship and even though Russel Rebello wasn't the captain of Costa Concordia, he stayed on the ship and placed himself in harm's way to help others.
