Bribery case : Vigilance summons Biju Ramesh

Biju to record his statements against Finance Minister K M Mani

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau will soon summon Kerala Bar Hotels Association working president Biju Ramesh to record his statements regarding the allegation of bribe against Finance Minister K.M. Mani.

According to Vigilance sources, a decision on recording the statement of Mr K.M. Mani would be taken at a later stage after verifying the statement of Mr Biju Ramesh and others who raised the allegation of giving bribe for opening bars.
The probe would be carried out by either Special Investigation Unit-I SP Mr. R. Sukesan or SP Intelligence at VACB Headquarters Mr. K.L. Harikumar. A decision in this regard will be taken on Tuesday.
The quick verification is conducted to ascertain whether there was any prima facie evidence in the allegation that Mr Mani took bribe. Only if there is any evidence, a case will be registered and detailed investigation carried out, subject to government nod, said sources. "We have to begin the probe from Biju Ramesh's statement. The scope for registering a case depends on the strength of the evidence that Biju Ramesh or others who allegedly bribed the minister could submit. After taking their statements, we will verify the facts," Vigilance sources said.
Though the normal time limit for quick verification is three months, in many cases the VACB had sought extension of time to complete the
probe, Vigilance sources said.
