Quality of higher education dropped due to Centre: MP Vinod Kumar
Karimnagar: Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar held the Union government responsible for the deteriorating quaility of higher education in the country.
He was addressing a gathering at the Academic Festival held to felicitate 57 toppers of various graduation and post graduation courses on the campus of Sri Raja Rajeshawar Government Arts and Science Degree College here on Monday.
Expressing concern over the poor standard of higher education, Mr. Vinod said both the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) governments failed to take steps to improve the quality of education being offered in the degree and post graduation colleges across the country.
The TRS MP alleged that the Union government did not earmark funds for the development of the colleges and that it had not recruited faculty members which had hit the quality of education. The system of contract lecturers had further declined the standard of higher education, he felt.
Citing findings of a report submitted by the National Knowledge Commission, headed by Sam Pitroda, he said no Indian educational institute had figured in the top 100 universities of the world.
He opined that the policy makers should give a serious thought to improve the standards of higher education in the country. The Union government should play a crucial role in bringing about a change in the higher education system.
