Mission Clean Kochi gets encouraging pat

It was launched on November 1 to make public places and roads in the city free of garbage
Kochi: The corporation has been pleasantly surprised by the response so far to its two-week long Mission Clean Kochi. Calling it “overwhelming and unexpected” Mayor Tony Chammany appreciated the participation of residents’ associations and other civic groups in the programme. In fact, so encouraged is the corporation by the way people have taken to the mission, that it now intends to extend the programme to a year.
Mission Clean Kochi was launched on November 1 to make public places and roads in the city free of garbage and littering with the help of educational institutions, hospitals, traders and commercial establishments. Over 5000 school and college students are helping make a success of the drive.
The Mayor and his team members, who include corporation standing committee chairmen, councillors and officials , are also visiting different areas and supervising the cleaning every day.
Mr Chammany, who visited houses in Vivekananda Nagar colony on Sunday, wrote in his blog that he was surprised to see the active participation by the people, especially the old women in the drive.
The clean-up drive is one of the 33 schemes selected for ‘Mission Kochi 15-08-15.”
