Law panel asks to repeal 73 statutes

Purpose of the Act has now been subsumed by Section 28 of the Hindu Succession Act

New Delhi: Identifying the obsolete Acts, the Law Commission on Monday recommended repeal of 73 more statutes. Interestingly, even after 67 years of Independence, the statute book has a law to punish those, who dissuade people from taking part in a war in which the “British Empire” is involved.

“This Act was meant to serve the needs of the British Empire and is now redundant,” ‘Report 250’ of the Commission recommended.

Hindu Inheritance Act, 1928 is also mentioned in the list as its purpose has now been subsumed by Section 28 of the Hindu Succession Act, 1956 which says that illness can’t be the ground for disqualification from property inheritance.
