This is the third case of suicide by Amrita University students this year
Coimbatore: An engineering student of Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham committed suicide in the university campus hostel at Ettimadai in Coimbatore on Monday.
This is the third case of suicide by Amrita University students this year. Academic stress appears to have been the key cause of suicide by the three students of the univeristy this year.
A second-year mechanical engineering student, Logesh (19), son of Kalyanasundaram from Sowripalayam, was found hanging in his hostel room.
On Monday morning, Logesh did not attend class. When the hostel staff were checking the hostel rooms, they found Logesh hanging. The police said he had arrears in a few subjects and was depressed over his academic performance.
District SP, Mr M. Sudhakar, said the K.G. Chavadi police have registered a case. Logesh's body was taken to the CMCH where a post-mortem was conducted. The college management was unavailable for comment.
On April 22 this year, a 19-year-old engineering student, Anand Nirmalan (19), from Irinjalakuda town in Thrissur district, Kerala, studying first-year BE (Mechanical) at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham at Ettimadai, committed suicide in the hostel.
In his suicide note, he had claimed that he was not interested in Mechanical Engineering and could not focus on the course. So, he was frustrated and took the extreme step.
Less than a month ago, 18-year-old Leena, daughter of Lakshmanan from Kannanur, in Kerala, doing B.Tech in the university in Ettimadai committed suicide in the college hostel.
