Stop bias against women: Janardhan Poojary

Mr Poojary recently initiated several steps like appointing widows and dalit widows as archaks of temples

Mangaluru: Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader B Janardhan Poojary has urged the state government to ban the practice of ostracizing lactating women and menstruating girls followed in different parts of the state.

Speaking at the felicitation of Rajyotsava Awardee Jaya C Survarna, Poojary said that such practices make civilized society hang their heads in shame.

“We close our eyes despite seeing such practice happening around us. Women who should be respected as Mothers, are being harassed and innocent girls are being raped. Looking at these incidents we start wondering which society do we belong to?” he lamented and asked the state government to take strict action to stop such incidents.

Meanwhile Mr Poojary who had recently initiated several revolutionary steps like appointing widows and dalit widows as archaks of temples in the state, declared that he would organise widow marriages in the coming days.

“If anybody comes forward for widow marriage, we will organise it free of cost. Such steps are a continuation of the reforms initiated by social reformer Sri Narayana Guru,” he said.
