School wakes up, to install CCTVs

The school management have already contacted an agency that provides CCTV cameras

BENGALURU: The Jeevan Bhima Nagar police who are investigating the rape of a six-year-old girl by her teacher in the Indiranagar Cambridge School last week, took the accused, Jaishankar, to the school premises and collected details about the incident on Sunday.

According to the police, they took the accused to the spot to conduct mahazar. “Each and every minute detail was collected from the accused. He explained the events that unfolded on October 28 and 29, the days on which the girl was sexually assaulted. All his statements were recorded.”

Meanwhile, sources said that the school authorities have finally decided to install over 30 CCTV cameras in the school premises. “The school management have already contacted an agency that provides CCTV cameras.

The firm’s employees have already visited the school but they are waiting for the police to identify the places where the cameras should be installed,” the officer added.

“So far, the school had only four CCTV cameras and they were installed only at the entrance. We have asked them to install cameras in such a way that every nook and corner of the school will be under surveillance,” the officer said.

Meanwhile, the family members of Jaishankar reportedly moved out of their Thippasandra house, as they were not able to bear the shame following his arrest.

It is said that there will be a meeting involving the school management, education department officials, police and the parents on Monday.

‘In touch with authorities’

A press release by the school authorities stated, “Contrary to the reports that the school management has not been responding, we would like to clarify that we have been in constant touch and co-operating with the Statutory Authorities by disseminating the required and relevant information.

The management and staff were present at the police station on Thursday, the day the Incident was reported to the school authorities, which has ultimately resulted in the accused teacher being arrested.”

However the release stated that they were not bale to appear in front of the media or be present in the school premises to answer queries on Friday because of ‘hostile environment’.

“Notwithstanding the above, these incidents are taking an ugly turn with the arrest of the trustee and the principal with the allegation that proper security and safety measures have not been followed by the school authorities, though the same has been followed.

“It is now informed to all concerned that till the required guidelines are approved by the statutory authorities, the school will remain closed until further notice. Any further developments will be intimated accordingly,” the release stated.
