Mumbai police register case against top GVK officials for cheating and forgery
Mumbai: An FIR has been registered against top officials of Mumbai airport operator GVK, the former chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and police officers for cheating and forgery.
The case was registered on Saturday following the order by Andheri magistrate court. The police officers have been booked in two more FIRs with sections related to wrongful and partial conduct of public servants and corruption charges.
Ahmedabad-based activist Vishwas Bhamb-urkar is the complainant in the case. He gave a written complaint to the airport police on December 30 which demanded an investigation, citing a CAG report that had observed MIAL had accrued undue benefits in terms of profit and land usage. However, Mr Bhamburkar moved the court after the police did not register a case on his complaint.

Ahmedabad-based activist Vishwas Bhamburkar who complained against Mumbai airport operator GVK, the former chairman of Airports Authority of India (AAI) and police officers for cheating and forgery said, “MIAL was not levied a penalty for delay in the modernisation project and it arbitrarily introduced the User Development Fees (UDF) and Airport Development Fees (ADF).”
Mr Bhamburkar moved the court in April this year, in which he also accused the police of not registering the case and favouring the accused, which ordered the cops to file an FIR. The FIRs against the GVK top bosses and civil aviation joint secretary Alok Sinha (former AAI chairman) contain sections of forgery, cheating and criminal conspiracy.
After going through Mr Bhamburkar’s complaint and supporting documents, the court directed the police to register an FIR in the case.
Accordingly, founder chairman GVK Reddy, his son Sanjay Reddy, Mr Sinha and four police officers, including a DCP and an ACP, have been booked for causing losses to the government.
They have been booked under sections related to cheating and forgery.
The police officers — DCP ND Chavan who was then heading the zone 8, ACP Madhukar Sankhe, airport police senior PI R. Nagbhire and PI Vijay Sathe — have also been booked in two separate FIRs.
The one FIR is under IPC Section 217 (public servant disobeying direction of law with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture) and the second FIR is under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
A statement from MIAL said, “Once we know the contents of the complaint, we will respond suitably.” While DCP Chavan and ACP Sankhe could not be reached, senior PI Nagbhire refused to comment, saying he would wait for the investigation to conclude.
