Minister, MP face farmers’ ire at Janmabhoomi meet
Farmers seems uninterested in speech as their loans were not waived
GUNTUR: Minister for social welfare Ravella Kishorebabu and Guntur MP Galla Jayadev on Saturday faced the ire of farmers during a Janmabhoomi programme at Kakumani of Guntur district. The minister started to address the meeting by explaining the benefits of agriculture loan waiver but the farmers were in no mood to listen to him, saying that they were still waiting for their loans to be waived.
“Banks are pressurising us to repay the loans,” they said, rushing to the dais and obstructing his speech. Mr Jayadev tried to pacify the farmers but they remained adamant. The farmers said that they had cast their votes for the Telugu Desam hoping that their loans would be waived, but the party failed to fulfil its election promises. Normalcy was restored after officials pacified the farmers by promising swift implementation of the waiver scheme.
Mr Kishorebabu said that the construction a Gurukul school for girls would soon start in Kakumanu on a budget of 12 crore. He promised to work for the sanction of a stadium to the village. The minister announced that Mr Jayadev has sanctioned Rs 9 lakh from MPLADS funds, Rs 5.6 lakh from ZP funds, Rs 3 lakh from Mandal Parishad funds to lay cement roads in Kakumanu. Mr Jayadev said Prattipadu Assembly segment would see rapid development due to establishment of the capital in Tulluru and Mangalagiri mandals.
