Telangana officer to take hold of varsities
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government is going to bring in changes in the existing rules to further regulate the universities, especially the Osmania University. The government is looking to appoint a special officer for Osmania University, who will have administrative and academic powers to control the university.
The move is significant as it comes after continued agitations in the university against Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and his ministers.
Sources said requisite amendments will be made to the Universities Act to bring in these changes. The proposals have apparently come from the Chief Minister’s Office.
Sources said, a retired IPS or an IAS officer may be appointed as a special officer to Osmania University. The officer will have a strong hold over the university, in both academic and administrative matters.
Even after the bifurcation of the state, agitations on the campus have not ended. Even the CM and his ministers were not allowed into the campus by the protesters.
