Skill development for school drop-outs in state
National Skill Development Corporation to provide job-oriented certificate
Chennai: School dropouts and those who pass class 10, plus-2 in Tamil Nadu would soon get job-oriented certificate from National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) to earn their livelihood.NSDC managing director and CEO Dilip Chenoy said the corporation train students at three levels — schools, school dropouts and college students. “We have a different strategy for schools. We do skill development through Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan (SSA) using national vocational education qualification framework. When a student passes out of plus-2 with a certificate for retail or auto sector he gets a job easily,” he said.
Pointing out the TN government had initiated Amma skills development scheme for students in the state, Chenoy said that NSDC would certify some of the sector skill councils in the state, commence training soon to come up with results by March next year. “We are also looking at setting up a few centres of excellence to provide high class training to youth in the state. Tamil Nadu has a open mind to equip its youth with skills,” Mr Chenoy said. NSDC has 18 training partners in Tamil Nadu with 31 centres, who have trained 1.33 lakh youth and placed 83,000 in various companies.
