New Delhi: On December 25 this year, when veteran BJP leader and former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee turns 90, PM Narendra Modi plans to launch his ambitious Varanasi Redevelopment Project to turn the holy city it into a world-class hi-tech city within five years without compromising on its culture.
Sources said that the NDA government intends to launch the ambitious programme on the birthday of Mr Vajpayee, to send across a message that the BJP government is much interested in claiming the legacy of the former PM as well.
Sources said the urban development ministry, which is the nodal ministry for projects related to Varanasi’s redevelopment, is likely to prepare the blueprint by November and take the project to the Cabinet by December 15. The details of the programme are being fine-tuned and are likely to be announced soon.
It has become a trend for the Modi government to mark birthdays of national icons by launching key flagship schemes on their birthdays.
