PM Modi ignores Indira Gandhi but not Nehru

Centre set to celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru
New Delhi: A day after eclipsing the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday indicated that the Centre will celebrate the 125th birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, in a mega way to increase awareness about “Chacha Nehru” through a number of initiatives, like organising “Year of Bal Swachchhta.”
Mr Modi said that the “promotion of scientific temper among children” would be a prominent objective of the celebrations, adding that he invited suggestions on these and any other related subjects.
The release of commemorative coins on Nehru and organising bal swachchhta missions in schools across the country between November 14 and 19 will mark the celebrations of the birth anniversary of the country’s first Prime Minister.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of the recently-reconstituted national panel for the commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Nehru, chaired by the Prime Minister.
The official committee, initially set up by the Manmohan Singh government and including Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, was reconstituted by Mr Modi a few days ago with no one from the
Gandhi family finding a place, triggering a controversy.
The PMO, however, argued that Mrs Gandhi had opted out of the committee in May itself.
