Pinarayi launches Clean Kerala campaign in TVM

The party has also plans to support small scale farming and roof top farming for food self-sufficiency
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Choosing not to blame governments or municipal bodies for the failure in solving the garbage issue, the CPM has launched ‘Shuchithva Keralam’, a State-wide campaign which aims at disposing garbage at its source.
CPM General Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan, told reporters after inaugurating the project at Jagathy Corporation ground here, that the party would collaborate with all municipal bodies, mostly ruled by their party members for an efficient garbage disposal mechanism.
“Waste is an issue beyond any Government’s control and disposal should be de-centralised to bring in positive results. Successful models from places like Alappuzha should be emulated elsewhere and people should strive to change their mindsets by going for methods like pipe compost,” said Pinarayi Vijayan
“We do not mean to claim that the garbage problem can be fixed just by this programme. It can be addressed up to a level from two to six months by persistent efforts involving everyone in society,” he said.
The party has also plans to support small scale farming and roof top farming for food self-sufficiency in the state. A seminar on the topic will be held from October 28 to 30 in various parts of the State.
