Option forms for Andhra Pradesh doctors irk Telangana aides
Hyderabad: Option forms being distributed to government doctors from Andhra Pradesh have angered the Telangana government doctors who found it a frivolous exercise and an attempt to stay back in Telangana despite belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
Dr Ramesh Reddy, professor of paediatrics at Niloufer Hospital explained, “When there is a constitutional provision, then why is the option form being availed of? The worst department to suffer due to this is the medical and health department as only 20 per cent of doctors are from Telangana and the remaining 80 per cent are from Andhra Pradesh.”
There is already a lot of bickering going on in the hospital corridors where despite attaining Telangana ,the doctors still continue to struggle for their rights.
A senior doctor explained, “What is the point in giving a separate state when all our posts are going to be occupied by doctors from AP? If this continues, then the damage is done for the next 20 years. None of the doctors from Telangana will hold top posts.”
Dr P. Srinivas of Gandhi Hospital said, “The most disturbing clause is that if they own a property or house in Hyderabad or anywhere in TS they can opt to stay here. How can this be the basis to retain the position in the cadre? For decades, the postings have not been carried out in the way they should have been. This is not acceptable to any of us.”
The doctors are meeting the deputy health minister Dr T. Rajaiah to take up their case.
