Netizens say June 2 ‘Black Day’ for Andhra Pradesh

The resistance from the public is evident since the announcement by the state Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, where it was decided that June 2 will be celebrated as State Formation day instead of November 1.

Saturday was the first day after 58 years that the state government did not celebrate AP’s Formation Day. Opposing the government’s ill-defined decision, the people are demanding that the Chief Minister consider either October 1 or November 1 as Formation Day, but not June 2, which they feel is a “Black Day”.

A post on the Telugu Desam’s Facebook page informing followers saw opposition. People accused the government of losing faith in the public who voted them to power.

While many asked the government to rethink, a few others suggested that the government should not ignore the historical significance of Potti Sriramulu.

“A wrong decision by the government of AP. October 1 should be celebrated. That is the real identity for us when Sri Potti Sriramulu garu sacrificed his life for our identity. Celebrating June 2 means we are forgetting our ancestors, who fought for freedom for us,” said Raja Bhushan in reply to the post.

“June 2 is “Black Day' as the Congress threw AP people on the roads for the sake of votes. Please re-consider and keep October 1 as the AP Formation Day. We should never forget the sacrifice of Shri Potti Sreeramulu,” said Krishna Gorapalli.

Internet users in AP observed June 2 as a Black Day by uploading black images on their profiles in protest. Sunil Vamsi Krishna Pakalapati said, “That day we separated and people of AP felt bad about it. How can we celebrate it? We didn’t ask or fight for it. It is forced on us. Not good.”

It may be worth mentioning that Internet users of Andhra Pradesh observed June 2 as Black Day by uploading black images on their profiles as a protest.
