New Delhi: Decimated at the national level the Left parties met on Saturday to discuss ways to revive its sagging electoral fortune.
In a move to try to revive itself that the six Left parties, CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc, RSP, CPI(L) and SUCI decided to launch a joint nationwide week long campaign against communalism and the problems afflicting people’s lives and livelihood.
Incidentally, SUCI and CPI(ML) are the new entrants to the Left bloc. The campaign will be held from December 8 to 14 across the country.
CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat, who is being held responsible for the complete rout of the party, including it’s bastion West Bengal, tried to attack the Modi government’s reform policy to recover its lost base among the working class.
“We have put out a nine-point charter of demands which includes the attack on MGNREGA by the Modi government, its decision to increase FDI in the insurance sector, its failure despite election promises to take firm steps to unearth blackmoney,” he said.
He also targeted the RSS by saying that it was trying to “infiltrate” the education system, various social and cultural institutions. Mr Karat lashed out at the Sangh for its “love jihad” campaign in UP.
On the issue of joining forces with like-minded secular outfits, including the Congress, the CPI(M) general secretary said that the “first effort is to strengthen the Left and unite the Left forces. After that we will see about other things.”
