Five autorickshaws seized for removing the electronic meters

Coimbatore: As many as 56 autorickshaw drivers were fined '300 each and five autorickshaws were seized for overcharging and plying without meters in Coimbatore on Saturday.
On the first day of the joint drive by the police and transport departments to ensure that autorickshaw drivers implemented the revised meter fare system, 56 autorickshaws were caught.
The transport department seized five autorickshaws for removing the electronic meters and plying on the city roads without the meters.
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic) T.K. Rajasekaran said the city traffic police and transport department would further intensify checks on autorickshaws plying in the city. They would check if the auto rickshaws had installed the recalibrated meters or if they were overcharging the customers.
