Assam to hand over terror probe to National Investigation Agency

Mr Gogoi who chaired the meeting directed the officials to take all possible steps

Guwahati: Assam government on Saturday announced that they have decided to hand over the cases relating jihadi activities to National Investigation Agency for investigation.

The decision was taken at a law and order review meeting convened by chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday.

In a statement the government said that jihadi activities that came to notice after Burdwan blast have international ramifications so it decided to ask NIA for a thorough investigation.

Mr Gogoi who chaired the meeting directed the officials to take all possible steps to check anti-national activities in the state. “We have to take all possible measures to foil the sinister designs of anti-national elements. We will not compromise on national security and national integrity,” he said. Mr Gogoi also set another deadline of Jan. 1, 2015 for making the first police Commissionerate of Guwahati functional.

It was also decided in the meeting that Biswanath Chariali subdivision of Sonitpur district would become a Police District for ensuring better policing with easy accessibility to people.
