Boulders overturned due to the wind

Visakhapatnam: The wind speed was so strong during Cyclone Hudhud that some of the boulders, each weighing 50 tonnes, overturned due to the wind speed damaging the breakwaters of the entry channel of the port.
IMD on October 26 released a report that speed was about 185 kmph when the cyclone had crossed the coast on October 12. The IMD explained that the cyclonic system crossed the coast with a maximum sustained wind speed of 180 kmph over Visakhapatnam between 12 noon and 1 pm on October 12.
The US Naval Research Laboratory also reported the wind speed was 185 kmph.
“The peak speed of Hudhud winds that was recorded by the anemometers was around 279 kmph. It was recorded for few seconds. Anemometers of the four vessels in the inner harbour at that time recorded average speed as 220 kmph.
Structures, if exposed to such winds even for a few seconds, would face severe damages. Many huge rock boulders weighing 50 tonnes each of the breakwaters overturned due to the winds," Visakhapatnam Port Trust, chairman, M.T. Krishna Babu, told Deccan Chronicle.
