Act said to be ‘revenge’ against girl’s lover

Vijayawada: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly drugged and raped by her father repeatedly for a year. The incident came to light on Saturday when the girl and her mother approached Nunna police and lodged a complaint.
Police sources said the 42-year-old man, an autorickshaw driver, sexually assaulted his daughter after coming to know that she was in love with a boy in their locality. He started to give his wife and daughter drugs, suspected to be sleeping pills, pretending to give them iron tablets for energy and then assaulted his daughter, police said.
The victim, who was initially unaware of what was happening to her due to lack of consciousness, recently came to know that she was being sexually assaulted. After she told her mother, both approached Nunna rural police station and lodged a complaint against the man.
Police registered a case of rape and sent the girl for medical tests to the Government General Hospital in the city.
Confirming the rape after medical tests, a case under IPC Section 376 was registered against the accused, according to Nunna circle inspector K. Vara Prasad.
ACP K. Lavanya Lakshmi visited the victim at Nunna police station and spoke to her.
Speaking to reporters, Ms Lakshmi said that it is a heinous act and could not reveal details of the case. Meanwhile, sources said that the accused was taken into custody by the police and is being interrogated.
