Man dies in LPG cylinder blast

45-yr-old dies within 24 hrs of wedding
Coimbatore: Within 24 hours of his second marriage, a 45-year-old man died and his newly-wedded wife suffered burns in an LPG cylinder blast that ripped their house at Pollachi on Friday.
In the loud explosion, the house of the couple at Orakaliyur, in Pollachi, collapsed and their neighbour, a 60-year-old woman, was caught under the rubble and suffered head injuries, said the police.
According to Pollachi taluk police, S. Kanagaraj, 45, a farmer from Orakaliyur in Pollachi, had married Brinda (25) of Kulathupalayam, near Negamam, in a temple on Thursday.
Kanagaraj’s first wife had eloped with a tractor driver four years ago and she was separated from her husband. He had two sons through the first marriage. The police said Brinda allegedly forgot to turn off the regulator of the cylinder on Thursday night.
On Friday morning, when she went into the kitchen and light the stove, it exploded with a loud noise. The police said the LPG had leaked and engulfed the house. When Brinda lit a match, it ignited the gas and an enormous explosion occurred.
The explosion brought down two of the three walls of the building and almost razed the entire structure to the ground. One of the walls caved in on Kanagaraj, leaving him with grievous head injuries. He was rushed to the hospital where he died.
Brinda suffered 50 per cent burn injuries and is undergoing treatment. Their neighbour, elderly woman K. Rukmaniammal, also suffered grievous head injuries after a portion of her house came crashing on her.
The Pollachi taluk police have registered a case and have begun investigations. A Tamil Nadu fire and rescue service team carried out the rescue operations.
