Cover trash at Mavallipura: Karnataka High Court
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed Ramky to cover the garbage at the Mavallipura solid waste management landfill in one week’s time. The division bench, headed by Justice N. Kumar, passed the directions while hearing a batch of petitions over garbage disposal in Bengaluru.
The court passed the directions, after Indian Air Force informed the court that the landfill was attracting scavenger birds (vultures, eagles, etc) and posing a hazard to aviation safety at Jakkur Aerodrome and Kempegowda International Airport in Devanahalli. Considering the submission, the court directed the company to cover the garbage and construct sidewalls in seven days.
The bench further stressed that CM has assured that dumping of garbage to Mandur landfill will be stopped from November 30 and the BBMP should not dump the garbage at Mandur after that.
It further said that 300 tonnes of waste should be processed daily at Mavallipura and the public should cooperate with the BBMP, it said.
Further, the court asked the BBMP to supply drinking water through tankers to the residents of Mavallipura and surrounding areas and as well as free mosquito nets to the residents. Meanwhile the Swavam Seva Sangha displayed effective segregation of wet wastes at homes.
