Core sector grows in slow motion

Fertilisers production contracted by 11.6 percent in September

New Delhi: India’s infra growth slowed down to a eight month low at 1.9 per cent in September due to fall in output of crude oil, natural gas, refinery products and fertiliser. This even as finance minister Arun Jaitley said on Friday that the priority of the government is to bring back growth momentum.

The September figures would have impact on overall industrial production as the eight core sectors have a combined weight of about 38 per cent in the IIP.

The coal production in September grew by 7.2 percent against 13.4 per cent in August. Fertilisers production contracted by 11.6 percent in September. This is fourth straight month that fertilisers production has seen a negative growth.
