High-rise projects back on track
Skyscrapers rise as rules are relaxed
Hyderabad: Construction of high-rise buildings, which had come to a standstill within the greater Hyderabad limits over the last seven-eight months due to environmental clearance issues, has resumed.
The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TS PCB) gave clearance to over 12 such structures recently after environmental assessment. High-rise buildings, with more than 20,000 sq. mt. of built-up area, need clearance from the ministry of environment and forest (MoEF), and also need to take Consent For Establishment (CFE) as per the Environment Protection Act (EIA) 2006, before receiving permission from the GHMC.
“Though applications for consent of high-rise buildings were with the Board, clearances were delayed due to bifurcation issues. Even as MoEF gave clearance, lack of a committee to assess the pollution aspects delayed it further,” said an official of TS PCB.
Apart from a commercial complex in Gaddiannaram of Hyderabad Metro Rail, those who got CFE and EC were RDB Cyber City in Hydernagar, CBD Towers in Rajendranagar, P. Harsha Reddy construction in Raidurg, Seri-lingampally, Raghavendra Complex, ZR Ivory at Jeedimetla, Aparna Cyber Life and others.
Prior to giving the CFE to these high-rise structures, the PCB authorities had looked into the plans of the applicants (builders/developers) for wastewater disposals and installation of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP).
“About 50-60 per cent of water treated would be used for non-potable purpose within the building. Only after all these installations are in place, the consent for operation (CFO) for the building will be given,” said the official.
Following the governments directions for speedy clearance, the proposals are set to get early environmental clearance.
