It happens again: Six-year-old raped in Bengaluru school, suspect arrested
BENGALURU: Close on the heels of the rape on a three-and-half-year-old girl in Orchids The International School in Jalahalli, a six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her Hindi teacher in The Indiranagar Cambridge School in New Thippasandra. The 38-year-old teacher has been arrested.
The suspect has been identified as Jaishankar, a resident of Thippasandra. Police said that the incident took place on Tuesday and the girl’s mother approached the police on Wednesday, following which the suspect was picked up on Thursday morning.
The girl was a Class I student while the suspect, who hails from Tamil Nadu, was working in the school for the last few years.
“When the girl was questioned, she said that her Hindi teacher took her inside the boys’ toilet on Tuesday afternoon and sexually assaulted her. She was also going for Hindi tuition to the suspect’s house for the last few months,” the police said.
On Tuesday, the girl returned home and she was found depressed by her mother. She did not sleep the whole night. On Wednesday morning, she complained of stomach ache and her mother took her to a clinic in the afternoon.
The doctor examined the girl and said that the girl had been sexually assaulted. Her parents approached the police and filed a complaint.
“The Jeevan Bhima Nagar police registered the case under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and under section 376 (rape) of the IPC. We are questioning several people and the school authorities,” DCP (East) Satish Kumar said.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order) Alok Kumar said that the police strongly suspected Jaishankar’s role in the incident and he is being questioned.
“The school is not following the safety guidelines issued for schools in July. A case was also booked against the school for this in September,” he added.
After the news broke, nearly 100 people including several parents went to the school and protested on Thursday night, blaming the management for the incident. Education department officials rushed to Jeevan Bhima Nagar police station to get more details about the incident.
