Mysore: A fact-finding committee from Tamil Nadu, which independently investigated into the death of Palani, has revealed that he was shot dead by Karnataka forest rangers and has also confirmed that he was in the Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary along with two others to poach animals for meat on the night of October 21t when the alleged shootout took place.
The committee, headed by Tamil Nadu People’s Rights Movement state president Pomozhi, was in Mysore on Wednesday and visited Mysore Medical College and Research Institute (MMC & RI), where the postmortem of Palani was conducted. The team also met Dr Anand P. Rayamane, who conducted the autopsy.
After the meeting, Mr Pomozhi said that the doctor didn’t divulge all the details of the autopsy report, but confirmed that the injury on Palani’s head was caused by a bullet. “During the course of our two-day inquiry, we also stumbled upon the fact that Palani along with two others, Raja and Muthuswamy, entered the Karnataka forests to hunt animals for meat. They had poached two Sambar deer, a wild boar and two rabbits before they were intercepted by forest rangers,” the team said.
The committee members said that they will submit their complete report in a week and a copy will be sent to the governments of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
