More Indians visiting Philippines this year
India is one of the fastest growing outbound markets in the world
Chennai: The Indian market continues to be one of the most important contributors of international visitors to the Philippines, which has recorded a double-digit growth of almost 50 per cent in Indian tourist arrivals in August 2014, as against the same month last year.
India, which has been recognised as one of the fastest growing outbound markets in the world, is now an important source market contributing to the bulk of international visitors for the Philippines.
As per statistics available here, the Department of Tourism Philippines (DoT) has received over 24,525 tourists during Jan-May, 2014 as against 23,365 in 2013 during the corresponding period last year.
Overall, the Philippines registered 20,61,135 international footfalls between January and May, 2014, registering a growth of 2.47 per cent over the previous year. Presently, DoT is focusing on enhancing the air connectivity between major airports of the two countries and is expecting to reach 55 lakh tourist arrivals this year, while it has a target of one crore arrivals by 2016.
The country is engaged in an aggressive marketing campaign, promoting its exotic destinations in the Indian market by participating in trade events and organising roadshows across India.
Recently, the DoT declared 2015 as ‘Visit Philippines Year’ for promotion of tourism of the country.
“We see India as a potential market, as the population is huge. We are promoting luxury tourism and shopping tours for the Indian market as the number of high network individuals (HNIs) in India is very large,” pointed out Maria Corazon G. Jorda-Apo, officer-in-charge, market development group, at Department of Tourism in the Philippines.
