Mobile e-waste collection vehicle to roll out soon
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government has finally signed an MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with a private firm – Earth Sense Recycle Private Ltd - to cart away e-waste from the state. The company will start collecting e-waste from government office, public and private establishments in the state from November 4.
Urban Affairs Minister Manjalamkuzhy Ali, said ina statement here on Wednesday that an understanding had been reached to introduce mobile e-waste collection vehicle – which will visit offices and educational institutions to collect e-waste. With this Kerala becomes the first state in the country to ensure state-wide e-waste collection. The project was drawn up by Clean Kerala Company Ltd – the CIAL model company formed by the government to develop integrated waste disposal mechanisms for local bodies.
The Palakkad-based company will be carting away the e-waste collected from the state to the recycling unit at Hyderabad to ensure scientific disposal. The company will be collecting it at a cost of Rs 5 per kg. Executive officer of Clean Kerala Company Ltd Kabeer B Haroon said the project would benefit the local bodies as the company would be paying for the waste collected.
