KCR blamed for selective withdrawal
Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders on Wednesday criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for selectively withdrawing cases against Osmania University students.
A meeting was held on Wednesday at the Gandhi Bhavan where Telangana Congress Committee vice-president and former minister Mohammed Shabbir Ali and former MP Mallu Ravi interacted with OU students to discuss the status of withdrawal of cases registered against them during the Telangana agitation. The students told the Congress leaders that the government has withdrawn only petty cases, which were registered for incidents like rasta roko and effigy burning. But, the students and others who participated in the agitation are still facing major charges.
Mr Shabbir Ali said the students had put their career at stake while participating in the agitation. But almost five mon-ths after the formation of Telangana state, the students are yet to get relief from the cases registered against them during the agitation. The announcements of withdrawal of cases being made by the TRS government are confined to paper and no major cases have been withdrawn so far, he said.
OUJAC leader Ramesh Mudiraj said several students who participated in the Telangana agitation are facing multiple cases like damage to public property and even attempt to murder.
Meanwhile, the Congress leaders have told the media that following non-inclusion of her late husband's name in the list of Telangana martyrs released by the state government, a woman attempted suicide in Vikarabad of Ranga Reddy district. They said the woman, Sabitha, attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills on Tuesday.
Her husband Pradeep was among the martyrs, who laid down their lives for the cause of statehood. After the formation of Telangana state, Sabitha was even honoured by the Ranga Reddy district collector.
However, Pradeep's name did not figure in the list of martyrs which was released by the state government for payment of Rs 10 lakh financial assistance. She went to the tehsil office to enquire about the reasons for non-inclusion of her husband's name in the list of martyrs. Unable to find an answer, she returned home disappointed and attempted suicide.
