An estimated 50,000 trees were uprooted by the cyclone in the Naval Command area
Visakhapatnam: The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R.K. Dhowan said that the major assets of the Indian Navy at the headquarters of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in Vizag, like warships, submarines and aircraft have not been affected by the Cyclone Hudhud.
After visiting various Hudhud-affected places of Vizag naval base, during his first visit after the cyclone’s devastation, Admiral Dhowan said that funds are being allocated to bring back normalcy at the naval base, and the repair works at the units and other establishments will be taken up on priority basis.
“I have driven around the Vizag naval base to see the damage and assess of the loss. The damage is really extensive, but our high-standard of preparedness helped the Command to have minimal human loss and no major assets were damaged,” he said
Admiral Dhowan added that an estimated 50,000 trees were uprooted by the cyclone in the ENC area and for every single tree lost, two saplings will be planted.
He launched a tree plantation drive at the Vizag naval base and lauded the efforts of Navy personnel, who participated in the community relief and restoration work showing courage even at a time when their own houses were damaged.
