Telangana police launches app to track stolen vehicles
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police has launched a new mobile phone application software which helps to track stolen vehicles.
The android app, Telangana State Police Stolen Vehicle Tracking System, acts as a quick database for police officials to search and upload details of stolen vehicles.
If a police officer finds a suspicious vehicle he has to enter the registration number or chassis number or engine number of the vehicle in the app, and he can then find if it is a stolen vehicle or not.
Launching the App, Hyderabad police commissioner M. Mahender Reddy said the app will be used by police officers of up to SI rank including those of the traffic police. They can use it during vehicle checks and in other situations.
The commissioner said the app currently works on the Android platform and development of the IOS App is in progress.
The application has a search and entry option. “If a police officer suspects any vehicle during checking, he can search details of the vehicle by entering vehicle, chassis and engine numbers. Soon information would be available on whether the vehicle was stolen or not. If the vehicle is stolen he would get details like where it was stolen from and which police is handling the case etc.,” Mr Mahender Reddy said.
Using the entry option whenever the police receives a complaint on stolen vehicle they can directly update the particulars using their phone. Updation and search of stolen/abandoned vehicle data through mobile phone will enable police officers to immediately trace stolen vehicles. State-wide implementation of this application will help in nabbing thieves.
