Karimnagar: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday paid tributes to freedom fighter B.V Rama Rao, who passed away in a hospital in Hyderabad on Monday. The Chief Minister was present at the funeral of the 94-year- old freedom fighter, here on Tuesday.
Mr Chandrasekhar Rao paid homage by placing a garland on the body of the freedom fighter. Later, he consoled the freedom fighter’s family members and son Hanumantha Rao. He was accompanied by minister for major irrigation T. Harish Rao, minister for finance and civil supplies Etela Rajender and Peddapalli MP Balka Suman.
Mr Rao arrived in the city in a chopper at 12.20 pm. He was welcomed by Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar, Ramagundam MLA S. Satyanarayana, district collector M. Veerabrahmaiah and joint collector Sarfaraz Ahmad and Karimnagar RDO B. Chandrasekhar.
Others who took part in the funeral included Karimnagar MP B. Vinod Kumar, legislators Gangula Kamalakar, Somarapu Satyanarayana, Bodige Shobha, Rasamayi Balakishan, Putta Madhu, Dasari Manohar Reddy, V. Sathish Kumar and Jagtial MLA T. Jeevan Reddy, zilla parishad chairperson Tula Uma, Karimnagar corporation mayor S. Ravinder Singh and former MLC Laxman Naradasu. A large number of freedom fighters and literary personalities also paid tributes to the freedom fighter.
Rama Rao hailed from Thotapalli village, in Bejjanki mandal. He participated in many freedom struggles, including Indian Independence movement. He was fondly called the Karimnagar Gand-hi. He is survived by six daughters and a son.
