Morning rain hits NMR service to Ooty

Rains caused uprootment of trees and electric poles due top which train service stopped
Ooty: The heavy rains in the early hours of Tuesday in the hills here resulted in the uprooting of trees and electric poles in a couple of places besides triggering minor landslip along the Nilgiri mountain railway (NMR) track near Ketti. This paralysed hill train service between the Ooty and Coonoor sector of the NMR on Tuesday morning.While the weather was good till Monday night in the hills, the thundershowers in the early hours, which is characteristic of the northeast monsoon in the hills, began to lash the hills early Tuesday.
The heavy rains uprooted trees and electric poles in a couple of places in Ooty town. NMR resumed its hill train service in the Mettupalayam and Coonoor sector on Tuesday, after being suspended since Friday due to a landslide near Kallar railway station. NMR suffered a blow again on the Coonoor-Ooty sector on Tuesday morning as the heavy rains led to minor landslip near Ketti railway station that instantly paralysed train service between Ooty and Coonoor.
However, the railway work force reached the spot and cleared the rubble by around noon and hill train service between Ooty and Coonoor resumed on Tuesday afternoon. In the meantime, heavy rains were reported in the Coonoor belt on Tuesday evening. Rainfall recorded in various centres in the Nilgiris on Tuesday morning: Kodanadu -82 mm, Ketti -55 mm, Kotagiri - 52 mm, Ooty - 45 mm, Glenmorgan - 45 mm, Upper Bhavani - 35 mm, Burliar - 34 mm and Coonoor - 32 mm.
