Locals protest waterloogging
Angry people stage road roko in Mettupalayam
Coimbatore: Angry public staged a road roko in Mettupalayam on Tuesday morning, urging the officials to clear the waterlogging on the roads. Mettupalayam roads are flooded after heavy rains pounded the area over the last one week. Scores of residents participated in the protest that took place on the Mettupalayam to Coimbatore highway near the Cheran transport corporation bus depot in Mettupalayam.
They demanded that the district officials drain out the stagnant water in the residential areas. The protest went on for more than half-an-hour with the locals claiming that schoolchildren and pedestrians were finding it difficult to wade through the knee-deep water that was flooding their areas. The police, along with the tahslidar, rushed to the spot and assured them that they would immediately take efforts to pump out the stagnant water.
