Cyclone Hudhud costs Andhra Pradesh Rs 14,840 crore in losses

Hudhud has caused highest loss in housing

Hyderabad: The AP government has estimated the loss from the recent Cyclo-ne Hudhud to be Rs 14,840.63 crore. The highest loss was in the housing sector — Rs 3,236.32 crore — while the power sector faced a loss of Rs 683.18 crore.

AP government has estimated that Rs 4,706.20 crore will be required for rescue, relief and temporary restoration. For permanent restoration of AP after Cyclone Hudhud, it will need another Rs 1,612.72 crore. The remaining amount will be borne by the state government in the regular budget.

The loss in the Agriculture sector was Rs 947 crore and Horticulture sector Rs 1,339.23 crore. The loss to Animal Husbandry department was Rs 32.88 crore, Fisheries Rs 67.44 crore, Sericulture department Rs 1.73 crore and Handlooms and Textiles Rs 0.16 crore.

The loss to AP Roads and Building department was Rs 608.29 crore, Rural Water Supply Rs 19.13 crore, Irrigation department Rs 232.57 crore, Panchayat Raj Rs 495.18 crore, Municipal Administration Rs 2621.56 crore, Power sector Rs 683.18 crore, School Education department Rs 3.17 crore, Internal Grama Panchayat roads Rs 410 crore, BC Welfare department Rs 40.87 crore and Forest department Rs 115 crore.

The loss for Commandant 5th Battalion, APSP, at Vizianagaram was Rs 3.89 crore, Industrial Parks of APIIC faced losses of Rs 775 crore and Industries Department Rs 3,207.13 crore. The highest loss was to the Housing Sector at Rs 3236.32 crore.

According to government estimates, the required amount for temporary and permanent restoration in the Agriculture Sector is Rs 319.72 crore, Horticulture Rs 301.15 crore, Animal Husbandry Rs 15.54 crore, Fisheries Rs 32. 22 crore, Sericulture Rs 1.10 crore and Housing Sector Rs 63.69 crore.

For the Roads and Building department Rs 608.29 crore is needed, Rural water supply 16.81 crore, Panchayat Raj Rs 495.18 crore, Municipal Administration Rs 2,621.56 crore, Power Sector Rs 683.18 crore, Internal Grama Panchayat Roads Rs 410 crore and for the Forest department, Rs 115 crore.

The report stated that Rs 319.72 crore was needed for the distribution of essential commodities for the cyclone victims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced Rs 1,000 crore assistance during his visit to Visakhapatnam after the cyclone.
