Auto driver’s family alleges medical negligence

The hospital authorities claimed that Prasad was just instructed to sit on lukewarm water

BENGALURU: A 57-year-old auto driver had a harrowing experience due to the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the medical authorities at Rangadore Memorial hospital.

Last month the auto driver, identified as Rajendra Prasad, a resident of Srinagar, was admitted to the hospital when he complained of fistula. However, to the horror of Prasad and his family members, the doctors performed a surgery on September 10 and worsened the situation by making him sit on boiling water.

Prasad’s son-in-law Karthik said, “After the surgery, the doctors advised him to further take ‘sitz bath’ treatment to soothe the pain. Instead of using hot water, he was made to sit in boiling water.” Karthik, further said that he had suffered from severe boil burns and the doctors did not even bother to administer first aid.

If sources are to be believed, Prasad was made to sit on a cauldron of piping hot water under the pretext of treatment. The family members alleged that Prasad was made to leave the hospital though he had not fully recovered.

The family then filed a complaint at The Karnataka Medical Council, which issued a prima-facie notice to the hospital.

Hospital denies charges

The hospital authorities claimed that Prasad was just instructed to sit on lukewarm water. The authorities maintained that Prasad had completely recovered at the time of discharge.

Acting on the complaint of the family, Shankarpuram police have registered a case of medical negligence against Rangadore Memorial hospital.
