Walkers evicted for Assembly session
Though session begins at 10 am, walkers are forced out at 7 am
Hyderabad: Members of the Public Gardens Walkers’ Association, Gunfoundry, are upset with the state Assembly security personnel for pushing them out of the Public Gardens everyday, whenever the Assembly session is expected to begin, much ahead of time.
Walkers and participants of the Yoga and Laughter Club have written to the Telangana State home minister and police commissioner complaining that they are being forced out of the park at 7 am during Assembly session days.
The Assembly session actually begins only at 10 am. Most of the walkers suffer from high blood pressure and blood sugar and have been advised mandatory exercise.
Ghulam Yazdani, chairman of the association, said, “We senior citizens walk in the morning for health reasons and to socialise with other fellow citizens. This has been the practice for generations ever since the Public Gardens was built.
It was built in 1846 by the Nizam for health, recreation and for providing lung space. Unfortunately, successive governments have usurped the garden space various reasons, due to which security has become essential.”
“Whenever there is an Assembly session, the police forces us to leave the place before 7 am. This security aspect is causing a lot of inconvenience. Most of us have age related health complications such as high BP, high sugar levels, obesity etc. Walking has been advised for all,” said association general secretary Dr Purshottam Das.
He asked the commissioner of police to allow the walkers to use the garden till 9.30 every morning by allowing entry through gate II of Public Garden, Nampally.
