SCB set to demarcate its borders

The largest cantonment of the country is spread across 9,888 acre, forming eight wards
Hyderabad: The Secunderabad Cantonment Board has claimed that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is eating into its revenue share by entering into the cantonment limits. The SCB has now embarked on a drive to demarcate its borders following a detailed survey of the cantonment area.
The largest cantonment of the country is spread across 9,888 acre, forming eight wards. However, in many areas, the border pillars have been removed and constructions have come up. The GHMC is said to be collecting the tax.
An assistant executive engineer (AEE) said, “Several columns in Malakajgiri, Kukatpally, Alwal and other areas have been removed and houses have been constructed there, despite our objections.
There are also several encroachments in the RTC Colony near Gun Rock.” Besides, the SCB is also gearing up for a total makeover of the of roads within its limits by putting up sign-boards indicating jurisdiction. The Board will also install solar LED lights.
SCB chief executive officer Sujatha Gupta said, “Most of the times, SCB is blamed for the bad roads, even though certain roads came under the state or national highway departments. We will put up a sign-boards mentioning jurisdiction of the roads.”
