Pune’s top hotelier Ajay Chordia ends life
Owner of the chain of luxury Panchshil Hotels, committed suicide
MUMBAI: Leading Pune hotelier Ajay Chordia, 48, owner of the chain of luxury Panchshil Hotels, committed suicide by hanging outside his office in the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel on Monday.
Known to be close to Sharad Pawar as his father Ishwardas and the NCP chief were college batchmates, Mr Chordia’s Pancshil Hotels and his brothers’ Panchshil Realty own around a dozen residential projects and three five-star hotels in and around Pune city. He had started DoubleTree in partnership with the internationally famous Hilton chain.
According to additional CP (north region) Prakash Mutyal of the Pune police, Mr Chordia reached DoubleTree in Chinchwad around 12.30 pm. His staff found him hanging near the emergency staircase around 2 pm. “He was rushed to a nearby private hospital but was declared dead on arrival,” he said.
