CID probe only into police lapses
Inquiry is for academic purposes only to unearth the police failure
Mysore: The CID probe into the attack on Director General of the Administrative Training Institute (ATI) in Mysore, Ms Rashmi V. Mahesh is only an “Inquiry” and not an “Investigation” clarified, the CID probe head in the case, DySP Mr A. Kumarswamy. Ms Rashmi was attacked when she visited the funeral site to condole the death of ATI Mess in-charge Mr H. Venkatesh on October 15 at a time when the relatives of the deceased were protesting near the ATI office after the Post mortem. Mr Venkatesh had committed suicide.
It is said that the Inquiry is for academic purposes only to unearth the police failure if any in the case as far as proviidng protection to the IAS officer is concerned. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr A. Kumarswamy, confirmed that, Ms Rashmi had alleged that there has been Police failure in the case. ‘We are inquiring about it and we are taking statements of all concerned,” he said. Mr Kumarswamy is in the city since Friday and he has visited Ms Rashmi thrice, but Ms Rashmi is reportedly yet to give her statements on the controversial incident so far.
The investigating officer who was scheduled to be in the city for three days, has extended his schedule. He is said to have collected statements from the accused arrested in the case, the ATI staff, the city police, the city’s journalists who were present at the spot when the incident occurred and Dr Dayanand of KR Hospital, who has conducted the Postmortem on the body of Venkatesh.
There were allegations that a senior police officer was behind the attack on Ms Rashmi Mahesh whom many in the bureaucracy consider an honest and upright officer. Reports have also been doing the rounds that the IAS officer had tried to bring to light a scam at ATI which landed her in trouble.
