Child welfare home officer summoned

When the petition was taken up for hearing the police produced the girl before the court

Chennai: The Madras HC has directed the officer in-charge of Don Bosco child welfare home, Chinnamaranodai village, Villupuram district, to appear before the court on October 29 for admitting to the home without the court’s order a minor girl who went missing in July 2014.

The petitioner, Murugesan (name changed) submitted that his 16-year old sister, a class 11 student of the government girls’ higher secondary school, Kallakurichi, was abducted by Sundarapandiyan of Karanur village, Kallakurichi taluk.

The Kallakurichi police registered a case and Murugesan also reported the incident to the Villupuram superintendent of police, seeking speedy action in the issue. As they did not act on the matter, he filed the present petition.

When the petition was taken up for hearing, the police produced the girl before the court. The petitioner, sub-inspector Rajendran and a woman constable Parameswari, were also present.

The bench said, “On inquiry, the girl told us that she wants to go along with her parents and her parents also agreed. Hence, the court sets the girl at liberty to go with her parents.”

Meanwhile, the SI informed the court that after securing the girl last week she had been kept at Don Bosco child welfare home, Chinnamaranodai village.

The bench directed the officer in-charge of the home to be present before the court on October 29 to explain how she was allowed to be taken in without any order of the court.
