Sania Mirza, Cara Black win WTA finals in Singapore

Biggest margin of victory in the season-ending WTA competition’s doubles final

Hyderabad: Sania Mirza capped her highly successful year on the tennis circuit by winning the prestigious WTA Finals in Singapore on Sunday.

The Hyderabadi and her Zimbabwean partner Cara Black made a mockery of their rivals Su-Wei Hseih of Chinese Taipei and Shuai Peng of China to beat them 6-1, 6-0 in a clash that lasted just about an hour.

This was Sania and Cara’s last match together.

Earlier this month, Sania had announced Su-Wei Hseih as her partner for the 2015 season.

On Sunday, the Indian-Zimbabwean team lost the first game against the favourites but then put together a phenomenal streak to lift the Martina Navratilova trophy.

Sania won the US Open mixed doubles and the women’s doubles at the WTA event in Tokyo earlier this year.

She also won the mixed doubles gold medal and the women’s doubles bronze at the recent Asian Games.
