RTC to ply mini buses in Ongole city soon
Bus will be started to reduce losses caused by low-seat occupancy rate
Ongole: The APSRTC is planning to introduce mini-buses in Ongole, which can carry 36 passengers, in order to reduce losses caused by low-seat occupancy rate.The higher officials in the RTC have decided to ply mini buses in the city very soon. At present seat occupancy ratio in the city bus services is 40 per cent, as a result the RTC is getting losses in the city routes.
Highly placed sources in the RTC said that minister for transport Siddha Raghava Rao had directed the RTC officials to introduce mini-bus services in Ongole city and directed the officials to send proposals immediately for the same.The APSRTC introduced five city bus services in Ongole city on the occasion Dasara on pilot basis for the convenience of the passengers.
Due to lack of publicity, seat occupancy ratio was very poor in city bus services.The officials have decided to construct new bus shelters and renovate the existing bus shelters and display city bus timings prominently for the convenience of the passengers to increase seats occupancy ratio in the city buses.
The municipal corporation and the APSRTC officials will conduct a joint inspection in the city soon and decide the places where they could construct bus shelters very soon.
The APSRTC Ongole region will get 40 Jawa-harlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses very soon. Depending upon requirement, the RTC officials will ply the buses to the nearest towns.
