Restoration of VUDA parks begins in Visakhapatnam
Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority had geared up the renovation works of parks and other tourist spots in its limits as they were damaged during Hudhud cyclone. The authorities have planned to reinstate all the places as soon as possible.
Men and machinery in big number are deployed at all the Vuda parks to clean up the fallen trees, branches and debris to bring normal state in two days. As per the directions of the in-charge vice-chairman M.V. Seshagiri Babu, the officials and staff formed into 27 teams and took up cleaning works at all the Vuda parks, engaging heavy machinery and skilled labour. Works at Kailasagiri, Uda Park, YSR Park, Tenneti Park, Thotlakonda, Kailasagiri Health Arena and MVP Nursery along with Biodiversity Park at RCD Hospital, KGH, Collector Camp Office, Circuit House and other areas where Uda is maintaining greenery and parks have been started.
About 4,100 trees have fallen fully and 9,250 trees were partially damaged at all the Uda centres. In all, 25 JCBs and 65 tippers were engaged along with pruning saws to clear up fallen trees and trim the surviving trees. Toddy workers were brought from East Godavari and Visakha-patnam districts to prune up the coconut and palm trees. The debris and fallen trees collected from Kailasagiri, Vuda Park, Thotlakonda, Tenneti Park and other places were dumped at the open space available in Vuda Park. On Sunday, some volunteers of Lions Club and other NGOs also took part in cleaning Vuda Park.
The secretary of Vuda, G.C.Kishore Kumar, DFO B.Raja Rao, in-charge chief engineer M. Appanna, executive engineer V. Bhavani Shankar and other senior officials have participated in the restoration works.
