MDMK general secretary Vaiko deposes before LTTE ban tribunal

The tribunal is holding a two-day hearing in the municipal council hall
Coonoor: The unlawful activities (prevention) tribunal, dealing with the ban of the LTTE in India, held a hearing in Coonoor in the Nilgiris on Sunday. The tribunal, headed by Justice G.P. Mittal, is holding a two-day hearing in the municipal council hall at Coonoor.
While on Sunday, the first day of the hearing, two police officers deposed before the tribunal, MDMK leader Vaiko, seeking to lift the ban on the LTTE, also participated in the proceedings.
Mr Rajaraman, a DSP from Madurai who made his deposition, pointed to the seizure of iron pipe bombs, petrol and pamphlets from persons belonging to the Tamil Nadu Liberation Army (TNLA) last February and the arrest of five persons who are members of TNLA which is said be an organisation supporting the demand of a separate Tamil Eelam like the LTTE. He said the arrested persons gave confessional statements on their roles in these incidents.
Mr M. Jayachandran, DSP at Ramanathapuram, while deposing before the tribunal, also pointed to the seizure of pamphlets in Ramanathapuram limits in February printed by the TNLA supporting the Tamil Eelam cause and said these activities pose a threat to the sovereignty of India.
