Special Investigation Team to look into Maharashtra youth case

The duo has been sent to judicial remand

Hyderabad: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) will be taking up the case of the two youngsters from Maharashtra, who were reportedly planning to leave for Afghanistan to get trained by al-Qaeda. The North Zone Police has written to the higher officials to transfer the case, since it is a grave offence, and it has to be investigated by the SIT.

Meanwhile, police officials said that more evidence is required to arrest Moutasim Billah, a student of Osmania University, who is suspected to have promised to help Shah Mudassir, 25, and Shoeb Ahmed Khan, 24, to get to Afghanistan.

“The arrested duo has confessed to have contacted Moutasim and we have the call details, apart from some other evidence. We are in the process of finding more evidence against him to make the arrest,” said R. Jaya Lakshmi, DCP of North Zone. The duo has been sent to judicial remand.

Earlier, Moutasim had denied links with the arrested people, and had said that he did not even have money to carry forward his studies, so how could he finance the youth to go to Afghanistan. He had also alleged that he was being harassed continuously by the police.
